What formula do you use on distance to travel for renting land. There is a not land up for rent in my area.

depends on what part of the world you are in. We’re in western Kansas/eastern Colorado spread out about 120 miles. If we’ll go 20 miles for 1 quarter I supposed we’d go 80 miles for a section.

I would look into ways to increase profitability on your existing acres before expanding, especially further from your home base.
How are you maximizing revenue per acre now?
Livestock? Grazing winter covers? Cover crops as cash crops? Hi-***** beans? Clear hilum beans?
Those are some things I have looked into and/or tried. I'd be curious...

For us, we were hesitant to go more than about 10 miles, then we had landlords approach us from farther. This resulted in us now being spread over about 50 miles with towns and rivers to get over/through.

is it 40 acres, 160 acres or 600 acres. Have to make it worth it. Otherwise spend the money on your own land and maximize the yield/net profit

I've never seen a calculator, but it would be cool if someone had something like that. Maybe a program like Harvest Profit would have something for this on their spread sheets? Anyone know?
I've always been personally nervous about farming too far from home, but that might be because I'm spoiled with 90% of our land within 10 miles. Some guys here will drive a couple of hours.

It all depends on how far you are willing to travel. We rent 2 farms that are about 1 hour ( from home farm) drive in combine or slow (18mph) tractor. these two are the most northern and southern farms we have. when traveling from one to the other, it is a 1 hour and 45 minute drive in the early morning or late evening hours. There's a lot of traffic on the east coast.
